Real Weddings: Sophia & John

Sophia & John's October wedding was the perfect mixture of elegance, culture and pure romance. Hailing from the northern suburbs but true Chicagoans at heart, they met while living next door to one another 4 years prior to their BIG day. After our first meeting, one thing was for certain their love for each other, their families and their traditions were real. Sophia & John were in the midst of combining their two cultures to form one amazing unity betweeen them.

They found Stan Mansion like most other newly engaged couples; the internet. They wanted something within the city limits but not "downtown". After their first site visit they fell in love with the Mansion's rich history and the location. (Logan square holds a special place in their hearts, and the first days of their relationship)

Sophia opted for a modern take on the traditional ethnic gown complimented by Mendhi (henna) on her hands and feet. (We think she was STUNNING) while her bridesmaids wore traditional Pakistani gowns. John and his groomsmen wore tuxedos which complimented their idea of combining and celebrating both cultures.

The girls prepped in the Stan Mansion bridal suite, with hair and makeup while the boys suited their final touches in the masculine yet romantic bar/lounge space.

They shared their first peek in the lobby and proceeded to take photos throughout some of the mansion’s best spaces.

Their reception took place in the main ballroom. Exclusive Signature events draped the space in a soft champagne fabric and highlighted the space with washes of soft amber lighting. Juliet Tan Floral design provided a juxtapose of candlelight and purple florals on each table. Guests were seated at round tables on the main floor and rectangular tables on the platforms, whilst the bride and groom opted for a sweetheart table on the main stage.

The reception took off to a “bang” as the Bride & Groom were announced into the reception with traditional Pakistani Dhol. As evident from the many gorgeous traditional elements, incorporating Sophia’s heritage was an important element of the success to their big day.

Bartend Chicago served food to their guests family style. The couple opted for traditional fare from Anmol Barbeque- which included kebabs, rice, naan, curries and more. They served cake and traditional mango icecream to guests for dessert.

After speeches, and first dances guests danced the night away to both traditional Pakistani music as well as those heard blasting your nearest radio.

Sophia & John said farewell to their guests and headed to the bridal suite to spend the night before heading home the next day.

When we asked them to reflect on their BIG day, they said the following:

“Oh man as Lale knows there was a lot of confusion and disorganization in the kitchen (especially when it came to food).  However Lale was great and nobody noticed.  We did have a tremendous amount of fun and have so many great memories from that night!

Note: Hiring a good planner to keep track of all of the “back end” events that can, and often times do take place; is a great way to avoid having to deal with issues yourself. Maintaining a flow and not allowing guests to notice any mishaps is priceless.

Here’s to Sophia & John and a wish for endless laughter, joy and LOVE.
